
Women's Ice Hockey Drops Game To Northeastern

BOSTON-The Boston College women's ice hockey team was defeated by Northeastern, 7-2, at Matthews Arena, today, in Boston.
The first period belonged to Northeastern, in particular Brooke Whitney. The junior forward scored NU's first goals, tallying at 4:59, 10:57 and 15:04. Freshman Sara Mahoney, who assisted on Whitney's third goal, then scored at 18:36 and senior Kathleen Savino netted her sixth of the season at 19:29. In the first period, NU outshot the Eagles 14-1.
Whitney continued her dominance in the second period, sending home her fourth of the night and team-leading 20th of season just 29 seconds into the period. Jen Buckley scored on the power-play at 13:57 to put BC on the board. Assisting on the goal was Kelly McManus and Carla Hess. But freshman Stacey Sheridan answered for NU with her first collegiate goal at 17:49, off a rebound of a Beth Claggett shot.
Alaina Clark scored BC's second goal, a 5x3 score at 6:42 of the third, on a blast from inside the blue line. Assiting on the goal were McManus and Renee Taylor.
Amy Colette got the start in net for BC, making nine saves in the first period. She was replaced over the final two periods by Sharon Van Tuyl, who had 22 stops.
Mahoney had a goal and two assists. Claggett, Mochelle Lorion, Jennifer Santerre, Erica Archambeau and Jill Link each had two assists. The assists were the first collegiate points for freshman Link.
The win gave NU goalie Erika Silva her 58th career victory, breaking the school mark for career wins. Silva, a top finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award, finished the game with 23 saves. The previous record for victories by a goalie at NU was held by Shannon Meyers (1995-99). Silva is also the career record holder at NU for shutouts, goals against average, save percentage and is second in games played, saves and minutes. She also holds the single season school marks for games played, wins and save percentage.
Boston College will next host Princeton in an ECAC league game on Sat. Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. at Kelley Rink, in Conte Forum, Chestnut Hill, Mass.
