Women's Ice Hockey Rebounds With Win Over Mercyhurst

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Boston College's Kelly McManus scored the only goal of the game as the women's ice hockey team defeated Mercyhurst, 1-0, in a home game played at Meehan Auditorium, in Providence, R.I., today.
Coming out strong, both teams were held scoreless for the first two periods. Mercyhurst out shot the Eagles 23 to 14 in the first two periods. But remained scoreless to start the third period.
The game-winning goal came for the Eagles when Michelle Snyder stole the puck and broke away passing to McManus who put the puck into the back of the net at 11:55 in the third period. Despite out shooting the Eagles 20 to two, Mercyhurst was unable to score a goal. With 1:23 to go in the game, Mercyhurst called a time out and pulled Amber Natali from goal. With the Eagles skating five to Mercyhurst's six, Eagle's goalie Amy Coletta made key saves, preserving the one goal advantage and the victory for the Eagles.
In goal for the Eagles, Coletta collected 43 saves and collected her second shutout of the season. For the Lakers, Natali saved 15 in 58:37.
The Eagles improve on their season to 5-17 and remained 1-14 in the ECAC and Mercyhurst falls to 10-14-2.
Boston College women's ice hockey will next play Cornell on Sat. Jan 27 at 2:00 p.m. in Ithica, N.Y.
