Wrestling Competes in Columbia Duals

New York, NY - The Boston College Eagles competed in The Columbia Duals this weekend, their first dual meet of the season. Also competing at the event were Columbia and Syracuse University. Boston College defeated Syracuse by a tally of 40-12 and fell to Columbia by a score of 31-12. Columbia defeated Syracuse 47-12 in the only other match of the meet. The Eagles' dual meet record presently stands at 1-1.
Boston College captain Dan Degan continued his impressive performance wrestling in the 174 pound weight bracket. Degan defeated Columbia's Jeff Anderson by a score of 6-1 and was victorious over Syracuse's John Sodia as well, pinning him at the 2:38 mark. Degan, going 2-0 on the day, improved his overall match record to 13 wins and 6 losses. His ECWA record still stands at 1-2. Co-captain Steve Pregiato, wrestling in the 141 pound bracket, also went undefeatd. Pregiato defeated Columbia's John Valedures by a tally of 4-1 and Syracuse's Jorge Torres, pinning him at the 4:56 mark. Pregiato's match record presently stands at 10-6.
Boston College will travel next to Philadelphia, Penn., to compete in a dual meet against ECWA rivals Seton Hall and Drexel University on Saturday, January 13, 2001. This will be the first time that the Eagles will face off against an ECWA conference team in a dual meet format this season.
