Women's Ice Hockey Fall To Maine

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-The University of Maine shut-out Boston College women's ice hockey team, 5-0, today in a ECAC league game in Kelly Rink on the Chestnut Hill campus. Collecting three goals for the Black Bears was Karen Droog.
Jumping to an early lead, Maine's Droog scored her first goal of the day just 23 seconds into the game. Assisting on what would later become the game-winning goal was Andrea Keller and Kelly Nelson. Heading into the locker room for the first intermission, Maine held a 1-0 advantage over the Eagles.
The Black Bears opened up the second period when Droog scored again at 3:24 from Jaime Hill and Nelson. Just over a minute later, Maine's Cindy Biron added a third goal at 4:26.
In the final 20 minutes of play, Maine added two more goals. The first goal came at 2:33, when Droog collected her third goal of the game. The fifth and final goal of the game was scored by Maine's Emily Stevens at 11:24.
The Eagles were out shot by the Black Bears 37-14.
In goal for Boston College was junior Sharon Van Tuyl who collected 32 saves in 60 minutes of play. In goal for Maine was Dawn Froats collecting 14 saves in 60 minutes.
With the loss the Eagles fall to 3-16 overall and 1-13 in the ECAC, while the Black Bears go to 9-9 and 4-8 in the league.
The Eagles will next play Middlebury College at home in a non-league contest on Tue., Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. in Kelly Rink on the Chestnut Hill Campus.
