York Named Hockey National Coach Of The Year
January 12, 2001 | Men's Hockey
On January 9, 2001, Boston College head coach Jerry York was selected as the ice hockey National Coach of the Year for the year 2000 by the United States Olympic Committee.
Forty-four Olympic and Pan American sports each named a National and Developmental Coach of the Year, and each will be honored at the fifth-annual National Coaching Recognition Weekend in New York on Saturday, Jan. 13. The National Coaches of the Year were selected after strong showings at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, as well as successes in world championships and major event competitions for their respective sports.
In 2000, York led Boston College to its third-consecutive NCAA Frozen Four appearance, and became only the sixth hockey coach to reach the 600-win mark.
His 2000-01 Boston College hockey team boasts a 14-5-1 overall record and is currently ranked third in the country.
