Eagles Shut-Out By The Wildcats

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-The 10th ranked University of New Hampshire collected nine goals to shut-out the Boston College women's ice hockey team, 9-0, tonight in a ECAC league game in Kelly Rink on the Chestnut Hill campus. The Eagles fall to 3-15 overall and 1-12 in the ECAC, while the Wildcats go to 13-7 and 9-4 in the league.
New Hampshire jumped on top early in the game, when Marybeth Marren scored on a slapshot from the left point at 2:28. Assisting, on what would prove to be the game-winning goal, was Michelle Thornton. Goals by Annie Fahenbock and Randi Hickox gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead heading into the locker after the first period.
Kristine Butt extended UNH's lead to four at 6:22 in the second period. Adding another goal at 13:57, Thornton gave the Wildcats a 5-0 lead going into the second intermission.
A power-play goal by Kristen Thomas gave the UNH a 6-0 lead at 3:02 of the final frame. Goals by Butt (10:49) and Edgar (11:00) gave New Hampshire an 8-0 lead. The final goal of the night came at 12:09 when Thomas collected her second goal of the period.
In goal for Boston College was junior Amy Coletta who collected 25 saves in 51 minutes, while junior Sharon VanTuyl picked-up 6 in the final nine minutes. In goal for New Hampshire was Jen Huggon collecting 14 saves and Hillary Ensor entered the game for the final nine minutes, but collected no saves.
The Eagles will next play the University of Maine at home in a league contest on Sun., Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. in Kelly Rink on the Chestnut Hill Campus.
