Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's cross country team continued their early-season success by winning the Dartmouth Invitational this past weekend. Overall, the Eagles swept the top five places to out-duel a field that included Dartmouth, Lehigh and Holy Cross.
For their efforts throughout the first month of the 2000 season, the Eagles find themselves ranked tenth nationally in the FinishLynx NCAA Division I National Cross Country Poll.
Setting the tone for the team's success at Dartmouth was sophomore Maggie Guiney (Red Bank, N.J.), who was the top finisher in 19:10. In addition to Guiney's exploits, sophomore Laura Smith (Holden, Mass.), freshmen Jennifer Kramer (Loudonville, N.Y.) and Danielle Jelley (Westbury, N.Y.) and junior Sharon Van Tuyl (Portage, Mich.) all contributed solid times to round out the top five.
Freshman Jennifer Donovan (Melville, N.Y.) finished in the top ten, while junior Meghan Cunniff (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) and senior captain Lisa McIsaac (Alberta, Canada) finished in the top 20.
The men's team finished third amongst Division I teams at the meet. Leading the way for the Eagles was junior Colin Wolfe (Westmont, Ill.), who placed fourth with a time of 25:19.
Head coach Randy Thomas will next take the Eagles to the Iona College Meet of Champions on September 30. The race will be held at Van Courtlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
