Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team lost to Southwest Missouri State today 3-1. The match was the Eagles' last of the 2000 New England Challenge.
Southwest Missouri led throughout almost all of the first game and took a 1-0 lead with a 15-10 win in the frame. BC (1-7 overall) came alive in the second game, though, and forced the Bears (7-1 overall) into extra points. The Eagles had an opportunity to level the match with game-point at 15-14, but SMSU came back and took the game 17-15. Game three was a back-and-forth affair that saw the Eagles come back from a 14-10 SMSU game-point to steal the set, 16-14. The new fire of hope that the Eagles had in coming back in the match was quickly extinguished as the Bears took the fourth and final game 15-9.
Eagles' senior setter Kyleen Charlton (Tampa, Fla.) led all players with 68 assists, while SMSU's Erin Murphy led all players in kills with 21.
The Eagles' next match will be on the road this Wednesday, Sept. 13, as BC takes on the University of New Hampshire. Game time will be 7 p.m.
