Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Notre Dame defeated UConn, 7-0, on Sunday to claim its second straight BIG EAST Tournament title at Shea Field.
The Irish were led by Melanie Alkire, who hit three home runs over the weekend to earn Most Outstanding Player honors.
Meanwhile, Boston College saw its season end at 20-25 with a 4-0 loss to Villanova on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles fell behind in the first inning as the Wildcats scored a pair of runs against BC starter Lauren Fischetti (5-11). Villanova hurler Carrie Walpole held the Eagles in check the rest of the way, allowing just three hits, and the Wildcats added two insurance runs in the fifth.
Fischetti had two of BC's three safeties, including a double in the fourth inning. She finishes the season with a team-high .320 average.
Boston College loses seven seniors from this year's club, each of whom leaves with two BIG EAST Tournament titles to her credit. Among those returning are junior captain Summer Jarratt and freshman pitcher Kimberly Ryan, the 2000 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year.
