Softball Splits Doubleheader With Maine

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College recovered from a 4-0 loss in game one to claim a 5-1 victory in the nightcap against the visiting Maine Black Bears Thursday in Chestnut Hill. BC improved to 7-12 on the season. They play next at St. John's Saturday April 8 in Jamaica, N.Y. Game time is noon.
Cara Blumfield (West Hills, Calif.) hit three-fourths of a cycle to propel BC to a 5-1 win in game two. The freshman totaled four hits in the game while knocking in three runs to lead all Eagles offensively. Both Summer Jarratt (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Julie Ulbrich (Leonia, N.J.) went 2-for-3. Freshman Kimberly Ryan (Bayshore, N.Y.) threw a complete-game, three-hitter. She struck out eight and allowed only one run in her seven innings of work.
Four Eagles recorded a single, including Blumfield, Jennifer Asbury (Livermore, Calif.), Chris Vicari (Totowa, N.J.) and Lauren Fischetti (Brightwaters, N.Y.) in the first game.
Fischetti surrendered four runs on six hits before leaving after 2.2 innings. In relief, Ryan gave up two hits and struck out five to hold the Black Bears scoreless throught 4.1 innings.
