Baseball Drops Georgetown, 16-3

WASHINGTON D.C. -- The Eagles' Chris Rosado clocked two home runs off two hits for five RBI and pitcher Stephen Langone allowed two hits on six scoreless innings with six strikeouts to lead Boston College to a 16-3 victory over Georgetown on Sunday in the final game of a three-game baseball series at the GU Baseball Stadium.
Boston College (31-14, 11-9 BIG EAST) opened the scoring by driving in seven runs in the second inning. After center fielder Brian Durkin reached base on an error and third baseman Eric Olson flied out, the Eagles scattered seven hits (5 singles, 2 doubles) off starter Randy Erwin (Jr., Miami , Fla./Southwest Miami) to go up 7-0. Eagles second baseman Mike Gambino led off the fourth with a home run and Langone scored on an error to push BC's lead to 9-0.
In the sixth, Rosado hit his first homer of the afternoon with two men on board to increase the margin to 12-0. Eagle Erik Olson relieved Langone on the mound, and Georgetown (13-38, 1-21 BIG EAST) posted its first run of the game in the seventh when first baseman Eric Sutton (So., Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) reached on a fielder's choice, and shortstop Jay Catalano (Jr., Hunting Valley, Ohio/University School) scored from third. The Eagles registered four more runs in the eighth as first baseman Joe Kealty scored off a wild pitch, Eric Olson knocked a RBI double, and Rosado blasted a two-run shot for a 16-1 advantage. The Hoyas posted two scores in the their half of the frame as third baseman Matt Carullo (Fr., Oakton, Va./Paul VI) crossed the plate after Catalano reached base on an error, and catcher Phil Pierorazio's (So., Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) RBI walk which brought home Catalano. BC threatened again in the ninth but left a man on third, while GU went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the frame for the final 16-3 score.
The Hoyas' Erwin pitched four innings allowing nine runs (two earned) off nine hits to go 5-7 on the season. BC's Langone improved his mark to 7-2. All of Georgetown's runs were unearned as three Eagles' relievers pitched the final three innings allowing two hits, five walks, and three runs.
The Hoyas host Delaware State on Tuesday, May 2, at 3:00 p.m., while the Eagles battle Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H. at 3:00 p.m. also on Tuesday.
