The Boston College women's lacrosse team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 14-13 win over the visiting Davidson Wildcats on Saturday at a rain-soaked Alumni Stadium. Sophomore Lauren Miller notched seven points (four goals, three assists) and classmate Chrissie DeMichele tallied three goals in the effort. The Eagles improved their record to 5-10 with the win and the Wildcats dipped to 5-8 with the loss.
Boston College opened a 2-0 lead on goals by Miller and junior Julie Lufkin, but Davidson quickly evened the score with two goals of its own by Stephanie Hunter and Lauren Kenchington. The Eagles held he visitors scoreless for the next 10:00 and extended its lead to 6-2 before Loren Seaton notched Davidson's third goal. Senior Emily Santos added another goal for the Eagles to regain the four-goal cushion but Molly Cherington and Kenchington (two goals) added scores as time wound down to close the scoring gap. Junior Emily Ryan added a final tally of the half for the Eagles, who took an 8-6 halftime lead.
Miller scored on successive eight-meter shots to extend a 10-6 lead with 27:03 remaining in the game. Cherington scored again for the Wildcats, but Miller answered on a feed from Ryan to regain the four-goal lead. Junior Honor Crowther added her first goal of the game with 20:46 remaining to give the Eagles a 12-7 advantage.
But the Wildcats, behind a strong defensive effort, kept Boston College off the scoreboard for 7:00, while potting two goals (Kenchington and Hunter). After the Eagles reclaimed the five-goal lead on tallies by DeMichele and Crowther, the Wildcats shut the Eagles down and made a valiant attempt to take the game away from Boson College.
With 8:08 remaining, Beth Calder scored to ignite a four-goal outburst by the Wildcats in the game's final minutes. Hunter, Seaton and Kenchington each posted goals, but could only rally the score to within one goal as the game ended 14-13 in favor of the Eagles.
Boston College closes out its season on Wednesday, April 26 a 7:30 when the Eagles face Holy Cross on Senior Night.
