Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Freshman Kimberly Ryan earned two complete-game wins, including a three-hit shutout in the opener, as Boston College swept a doubleheader against Pittsburgh.
The Eagles (16-15, 5-3 BIG EAST) move above the .500 mark for the first time this season.
In the opener, Ryan went head to head with Pitt's Nicki Gasti for four and a half scoreless innings before the Eagles picked up the game's only run in the bottom of the fifth.
Summer Jarratt knocked a one-out base hit to right field before being lifted for pinch runner Jaclyn Woitkowski. After Lisa Fischer reached on an error, Cristin Brown singled to left field, with Woitkowski just beating the throw home.
In the nightcap, the Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run double by Julie Ulbrich. After a fourth-inning home run by Pitt's Kelly Hulpa cut the lead in half, the Eagles scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Fischer drove home Lauren Fischetti with a sacrifice fly, and a single by Ulbrich scored Woitkowski, who was again running for Jarratt.
Boston College added two insurance runs in the sixth on a fielder's choice by Cara Blumfield and a single by Anne Marie Ambros.
Ryan allowed only three hits in each game, pitching all 14 innings for the Eagles to improve to 10-7 on the season. She struck out 10 batters in each game.
The Eagles will be on the road Tuesday at Providence and Wednesday at Yale before returning home for Easter break.
