Boston, Mass. - Junior forward Mike Lephart tallied an unassisted goal at 15:53 of the third period to lead Boston College to a 2-1 victory over New Hampshire in the HOCKEY EAST Tournament semifinal round before a crowd of 15,989 at the FleetCenter.
Lephart's goal capped a third period in which the Eagles outshot the Wildcats, 14-3. The game marked the first time this season that Boston College had won after being held scoreless for the first two periods.
The Eagles trailed, 1-0, after New Hampshire's Lanny Gare scored at 17:33 of the second period, but Blake Bellefeuille got Boston College on the board with an unassisted goal at 12:26 of the final stanza. After tying the game, the Eagles kept the pressure on Wildcat goalie Ty Conklin until Lephart was able to notch the game-winner three minutes and 27 seconds later.
Junior goaltender Scott Clemmensen earned the win in goal for the Eagles, making 20 saves to run his career record in March to 19-0-1. Conklin made 26 saves for New Hampshire.
Boston College (26-10-1) will face Maine in the tournament championship game at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 at the FleetCenter.
