Garay Captures Wrestling Honors

March 16, 2000 - Boston College sophomore Antonio Garay (Rahway, N.J.) recently earned Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at the annual East Coast Wrestling Association Tournament. Garay also captured the same honor last year.
Garay, wrestling as the top seed in the 285 lb. division, won all three of his tournament bouts by fall. He pinned Carols Panfili of Seton Hall in 0:26 in the quarterfinals, pinned Mike Carol of Drexel in 2:11 in the semifinals, and pinned the second seed, Marc DeFrancesco of Rider in 3:26 of the title bout.
For his efforts Garay earned ECWA Wrestler of the Week honors for competition through the first week of March.
Garay, also a starting defensive lineman on the Boston College football team, has a perfect 14-0 record this season. He is currently ranked sixth in 285 lb. division in the InterMat NCAA Division I rankings.
With his victory at the ECWA Championships, Garay advances to the NCAA Division I National Championships for the second consecutive year.
The National Championships will be held March 16-18 in St. Louis.
