March 13, 1999
Boston College 72, Ohio State 59
Becky Gottstein scored a career-high 23 points to lead Boston College to a 72-59 victory over Ohio State in the first round of the East Regional on March 13. Gottstein came off the bench due to a sprained ankle suffered in the BIG EAST tournament, and connected on six-of-seven attempts in the first half for 13 points. She finished the game connecting on 10-of-14 attempts and grabbed 12 rebounds. Alissa Murphy added 22 points for Boston College and Brianne Stepherson had 11.
The Buckeyes jumped out to a nine-point lead, but Boston College rallied to cut the lead to 15-13 with 9:58 left in the first half. Ohio State led 34-31 at halftime after a first half in which the teams combined for 32 turnovers. The Buckeyes tied the game for the last time at 39-39 on a free throw by Marrita Porter with 15:44 remaining. Gottstein helped the Eagles take control by scoring the first four points of a 10-0 run that gave Boston College a 49-39 lead with 12:18 left. Boston College stretched the lead to 17 down the stretch.
Michaela Moua led Ohio State with 16 points. Porter and Jamie Lewis each added 14. Boston College outrebounded the Buckeyes, 37-24.

Second Round Game at Knoxville, TN
March 15, 1999
Tennessee 89, Boston College 62
Tennessee's Chamique Holdsclaw scored a career-high 39 points to lead the Lady Vols to an 89-62 victory over Boston College in the second round of the East Regional on March 15. The Lady Vols had to rally after trailing much of the first half.
Boston College started quickly, hitting five of their first seven shots, and led by as much as five during the first half. Semeka Randall, the Lady Vols' third-leading scorer, watched the game from a wheelchair with a badly sprained ankle. The Lady Vols missed six of their first nine shots of the game. Holdsclaw gave Tennessee its first lead at the 11:09 mark with a tip-in during a 9-0 run that left the Lady Vols up 25-19. The Eagles used their own 7-0 spurt to take back the lead before Holdsclaw stepped up and put Tennessee in front at the half. Holdsclaw scored 23 of her points in the first half to give Tennessee a 42-41 lead.
Holdsclaw scored six points in Tennessee's 12-4 run in the opening minutes of the second half. With Tennessee speeding up the tempo, Boston College missed 10 of its first 12 shots and went more than six minutes without a basket. The Lady Vols took advantage of the drought to build their lead to as many as 32 points down the stretch. Holdsclaw went to the bench for the final time to a standing ovation after hitting two free throws with 3:51 left in the game. Tamika Catchings added 13 points for Tennessee and Michelle Snow had 12. Nicole Conway and Jamie Cournoyer each scored 16 points to lead Boston College, and Alissa Murphy added 12.
