Boston, Mass. - The Boston College hockey team will go after its first Beanpot title since 1994 when it faces Northeastern in a 5 p.m. showdown at the FleetCenter.
The Eagles (17-7-1 overall, 10-6-1 HOCKEY EAST) and the Huskies (11-9-5, 7-5-5) have met twice this season, with the clubs splitting the two matchups. Boston College has a 27-8 edge over Northeastern in 35 Beanpot contests, with the Eagles having won the last three.
Boston College's five seniors are 3-3 in Beanpot competition, finishing second in 1997 and third in 1998 and 1999. Jerry York, who won the Beanpot as a BC player in 1965, will be after his first as a coach. York is 5-5 in the Beanpot since his return to the bench with two second-place finishes in five seasons.
After tonight's game with Northeastern, the Eagles will return to the FleetCenter to face either Harvard or Boston University on Monday, Feb. 14 in the tournament's second round. Boston University has won the last five Beanpot championships.
