Men's Tennis Sweeps CCSU for Win

The men's tennis team improved its season record to 4-3 overall by defeating Central Connecticut State University, 7-0, on Monday, February 28 at CCSU. The match was originally scheduled for February 2, but postponed to the later date.
The match was highlighted by six singles straight-sets victories and a sweep of the three doubles matches.
Senior captain Anand Annigeri earned the win in the number one singles spot, defeating Jacob Jenson, 6-2, 7-5. Junior Jason Cowett won the second singles spot over Chris Markowski, 7-5, 6-2, and sophomore Colin Kennedy earned the win in the third position, 6-0, 6-4, defeating Chris Raffone.
Junior Matt Stutz topped Blaison Hazard 6-3, 6-0, and junior Chris Mercurio defeated Chris Corzinski 6-1, 6-1 to take the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, for the Eagles. Freshman Damon Vartabedian made his debut in singles play in the sixth position, topping Stuart Morley, 6-2, 6-0, for the win.
In doubles action, Annigeri and Cowett teamed to defeat Markowski and Hazard, 8-2, in the top spot. Stutz and Mercurio beat Raffone and Jenson, also by 8-2, in the second position and Kennedy and Vartabedian combined to defeat Corzinski and Morley, 8-3, to sweep Central Connecticut State.
The Eagles will next see action when they travel to California to tour several schools over Spring Break. They will face San Francisco on March 5, California Poly State on March 6, the University of California at Santa Barbara on March 9 and finish the trip on March 10 against Ventura.
