Freshman guard Troy Bell has suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the Eagles' basketball season.
Bell is expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery within the next week.
Boston College has two regular-season games remaining -- at Providence on Feb. 26, and against Villanova on March 4 -- before beginning the BIG EAST Championship Tournament in Madison Square Garden on March 8.
Bell suffered the injury late in Boston College's 70-60 loss to Pittsburgh on Feb. 23.
Bell is Boston College's top scorer and the BIG EAST's second-leading scorer, averaging 18.8 points per game. He already established the school record for points by a freshman with 508. Scoonie Penn, who now plays at Ohio State, previously held the record with 397 points.
Bell, a leading candidate for the conference's Rookie of the Year honor, ranks among league leaders in several categories -- scoring (second), three-point field goals made/game (fourth), free-throw percentage (fourth in league games/first overall), steals (fourth), three-point field goal percentage (ninth) and field-goal percentage (14th).
