Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Junior forward Brian Gionta registered his seventh career hat trick and freshman goaltender Tim Kelleher stopped 27 shots to help Boston College past New Hampshire, 4-1, before a sellout crowd at Kelley Rink.
The Eagles (20-9-1, 12-7-1 HOCKEY EAST) took a 1-0 lead just 2:40 into the game on a power-play goal by Gionta. New Hampshire would tie the score at 2:31 of the second period before Gionta put Boston College ahead for good at 9:47 of the second period.
Gionta finished off his second hat trick of the year with his 25th goal of the season at 9:01 of the third period. Senior forward Jeff Farkas closed out the scoring when he tallied an empty-net goal with 54 seconds remaining.
Senior defenseman Mike Mottau tallied three assists for the Eagles, while senior forward Blake Bellefeuille added two assists. Ty Conklin made 26 saves in defeat for the Wildcats.
The Eagles will be in action again on Friday, Feb. 25 when they travel to UMass-Amherst for the first game of a weekend home-and-home series.
