Hockey Set For Beanpot Final

Tonight's Game: The Eagles (19-7-1) look to win their first Beanpot since 1994 when they face Boston University (18-6-6) ... Boston College is 0-1-1 against BU this season, rallying for a 4-4 tie at Kelley Rink on Jan. 8 and dropping a 2-1 decision at Walter Brown Arena on Jan. 9 ... BC's seniors are 4-3 in Beanpot play ... The Eagles are 3-0 in neutral-site games this season.
Last time out: Junior goaltender Scott Clemmensen made 21 saves to post his third consecutive shutout as the Eagles rolled over Providence, 8-0, on Feb. 11 at Kelley Rink. The shutout was the ninth of Clemmensen's career, setting a school record. Freshman Krys Kolanos, who had a hat trick on Feb. 7 against Northeastern, had two goals and two assists in the win over the Friars. Junior Brian Gionta added two goals for the Eagles.
Streaking: Coming into tonight's game, Boston College has won its last six games and eight of its last nine ... Dating back to a 4-2 victory over Northeastern on Nov. 30, the Eagles are 14-2-1 in their last 17 contests.
Foes Shooting Blanks: During its current six-game win streak, BC has outscored its opponents by a 32-4 margin and posted four shutouts ... Clemmensen, who set BC's record for career shutouts (nine) when he blanked PC on Feb. 11, has posted three consecutive shutouts and has not given up a goal since Jan. 22 - a span of 185:28.
Weekly Honors: Clemmensen earned HOCKEY EAST Player of the Week honors for the week ending Feb. 14 after posting back-to-back shutouts ... Freshman forward Kolanos earned Rookie of the Week honors after tallying five goals and three assists in the Eagles' two wins last week.
Natural Born Killers: Boston College's penalty-killing unit, tops among HOCKEY EAST clubs, has been particularly tough of late. During their current six-game winning streak, the Eagles have successfully stopped 33 of 34 penalties. BC has successfully killed 28 straight penalties, not allowing a power-play goal since the first period of a Jan. 28 win at Maine.
National Ranking: The Eagles are ranked fourth in the most recent (Feb. 14) U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) poll and sixth in the most recent (Feb. 7) USA TODAY/American Hockey Magazine poll.
Home Away From Home: The Boston College seniors will be playing their 16th game at the FleetCenter tonight ... Since the start of the 1996-97 season, the Eagles are 9-5-1 at the FleetCenter - 4-3 in Beanpot games, 5-1-1 in HOCKEY EAST Tournament games, and 1-1 in NCAA Tournament games ... Dating back to last year's Beanpot consolation win over Harvard, the Eagles have won their last four FleetCenter contests.
Love Is In The Air: The last time Boston College won a Beanpot championship was on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14, 1994 - BC 2, Harvard 1). The Eagles have won all five Beanpot games that they have played on Valentine's Day.
Finishing The Job: Boston College has outscored its opposition by a whopping 46-13 margin in the third period this season, including five-goal outbursts in the final stanza against Brown on Jan. 2 and against Providence on Jan. 23 ... The Eagles are 15-2 this season when leading after two periods.
Movin' On Up: Senior forward Jeff Farkas is currently eighth on the Eagles' all-time scoring list. Farkas has 175 career points - 77 goals and 98 assists ... Junior forward Brian Gionta is tied with Steve Heinze for 15th on the school's all-time list with 159 points, while senior forward Blake Bellefeuille is 17th with 156 points ... Senior defenseman Mike Mottau is 24th overall and first among all BC defensemen with 144 points.
Net Profits: Boston College currently has two of the nation's top ten goaltenders - freshman Tim Kelleher is third in the nation with a 1.74 GAA overall, while junior Scott Clemmensen is 10th nationally with a goals against average of 2.15 ... Kelleher earned HOCKEY EAST Goalie of the Month honors for January after going 4-1-1 with a 1.42 GAA and .940 save percentage in six games, including a 6-0 shutout win against Providence ... Clemmensen earned HOCKEY EAST Player of the Week honors for the week ending Feb. 14 after posting back-to-back shutouts against Northeastern (Feb. 7) and Providence (Feb. 11) ... He was the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 31 after he posted a 3-0 shutout victory at Maine on Jan. 29 ... The two have combined for six shutouts this season - four by Clemmensen, two by Kelleher.
Defensive Gem: Senior defenseman Mike Mottau, a two-time All-American, is making his case as the nation's top player ... Mottau anchors the league's top-ranked defensive unit and penalty-killing unit ... Mottau also has three goals and a league-leading 27 assists through 27 games. Earlier this season, Mottau broke Tom Mellor's record for most career points by a Boston College defenseman. He has 144 points in his Eagle career - 24 goals and 120 assists. He also broke Tom Martin's mark for most career assists by a BC defenseman.
HOCKEY EAST Standings: The Eagles are currently in sole possession of third place in the HOCKEY EAST standings. Through 18 league games, BC has 23 points. Boston University is atop the standings with 29 points.
