Women's Hockey Drops Second Game to Niagara

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y.- Boston College women's ice hockey (2-11-0, 1-11-0 ECAC) fell to Niagara University (7-7-0, 3-7-0 ECAC) today by a score of 9-0 at the Dwyer Arena. The loss is the eighth in a row for the Eagles, second to Niagara.
Niagara's Candice Ceelen was the star of the show as she recorded her first collegiate hat trick today. Her first goal came at 8:44 of the second period when she received a pass from freshman Lindsay Vine to knock in Niagara's fifth goal of the afternoon. Ceelen found the back of the net again just under four minutes later to put the Purple Eagles up 6-0. Her final goal of the afternoon was at the 18:37 mark of the third period to give the Purple Eagles the 9-0 lead.
Vine scored the first, and game winning, goal at 8:19 of the first period. Amanda Reid, who also plays on the line with Ceelen and Vine, had two goals this afternoon. Ceelen assisted on one of Reid's goals and also on Vine's. All together, this trio combined for six goals and six assists.
Niagara's remaining three goals were scored by defensemen Barbara Prall, Maida Ciciarelli and Jennifer Goulet.
Eagles goalie Sharon Van Tuyl collected 8 saves in 31:22 minutes of play and Amy Coletta saved 12 in 28:38 minutes. Niagara's goalie Tania Pinelli collected the shutout with 14 saves.
The Boston College women's ice hockey team will return to action when they travel to take on Wisconsin, in Wisconsin, on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m.
