
Women's Ice Hockey Snaps Ten Game Losing Streak

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-Freshman Alaina Clark snapped Boston College's women's ice hockey's ten game losing streak today, when she scored the game winning goal to defeat the University of Vermont 3-0 in a non-conference game in Kelly Rink on the Chestnut Hill campus. Junior goalies Amy Coletta and Sharon Van Tuyl combined for the team's second shutout of the season.
Coming out strong in their first game after more than two weeks off, the Eagles out shot the Catamounts 13-2 in the first period but remained scoreless heading into the locker room. At the 18:16 mark in the second period, Clark put the Eagles on the board scoring what would become the game-winning goal from a pass from junior Miss Barsz. The goal for Clark was the first of her career.
Collecting an insurance goal for Boston College, senior captain Jen Buckley scored her sixth goal of the season at 13:48 of the third period. Assisting on the goal was junior Kelly McManus and sophomore Nicole Fortier. The third and final goal came for the Eagles when freshman Renee Taylor scored an unassisted goal at the 18:15 mark of third period.
Dominating the game, the Eagles had 42 shots on goal to Vermont's nine.
Collecting the win for Boston College was junior Sharon Van Tuyl. Van Tuyl saved five shots in 30:31 of play and picked up her first win of the season. Starting in goal for the Eagles was junior Amy Coletta who saved four shots in 29:29 of play. In goal for Vermont was Tiffany Hayes who saved 39 shots.
The Eagles will return to action in their first contest of the New Year when they travel to Lake Placid, N.Y. to play the U.S. National Team on Sunday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Olympic Arena.
