McManus Earns BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College's Janelle McManus, a freshman guard on the women's basketball team, earned BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors on Dec. 11 for her play against No. 2 Tennessee and La Salle last week. In two games, the Belle Harbor, N.Y., native averaged 17.0 points per game, 3.0 rebounds per game and 3.0 assists per game.
In Knoxville on Wednesday, against the second-ranked Lady Vols, McManus led all scorers with a career-high 18 points, while pulling down a career-high six rebounds. She was the shortest player on the court at 5-6. She also played a then career-high 32 minutes off the bench.
At La Salle on Saturday, she again co-led all scorers with 16 points and handed out a career-high four assists in 35 minutes, a new career high and all off the bench. She also tied a career-high, netting four three-point baskets on four-of-five shooting from behind the arc.
In the Eagles' first seven games this season, McManus has averaged 11.4 points per game for third on the team. She is the team's leading three-point shooter, going 15-for-26 for a 57.7 percent clip. She is also the team's leading free throw shooter, making all but one of her attempts this season (15-for-16, 93.8 percent).
Boston College is currently ranked 24th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll and has an overall record of 4-3 on the season. The Eagles will next face Dartmouth in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in Conte Forum.
