CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College forward Chuck Kobasew (Osoyoos, British Columbia) earned HOCKEY EAST Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending Nov. 26. It is the second time the freshman has captured the honor. He was also selected for the week ending Nov. 5.
Kobasew scored two goals, including the game-winner, in the Eagles' 7-2 win over Merrimack on Tuesday, Nov. 21. On Saturday, Nov. 25, Kobasew again tallied the game-winner, this time in overtime, to lift the Eagles to a 3-2 win at Harvard.
Through 14 games this season Kobasew leads all BC freshman in scoring with 15 points - eight goals and seven assists. He ranks fourth on the team in scoring. He also boasts a team-leading four game-winning goals, and is tied for the team lead with four power-play goals.
Among HOCKEY EAST scoring leaders, Kobasew ranks third in conference games, and seventh overall. He is the league's top freshman scorer.
Kobasew is the second Eagle freshman to be honored twice as HOCKEY EAST's Rookie of the Week this season. Classmate Tony Voce was selected for the honor twice (weeks ending Nov. 12, and Nov. 19). This is the fourth week in a row that a Boston College freshman has earned the honor, a feat which has not been accomplished by one conference team since the 1992-93 season, when Maine had four straight rookie of the week honorees.
The third-ranked Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 6, as they travel to Northeastern to take on the Huskies in a conference matchup. The Eagles will then travel to Orono, Maine, on Saturday, Dec. 10 to face the Maine Black Bears. Game time for both contests is 7 p.m.
