Cross Country Continues to be Ranked 6th Nationally

Chestnut Hill, Mass.-The Boston College women's cross country team continues to rank sixth nationally in the Nov. 13 FinishLynx Divisiona I Cross Country National Poll. The Eagles last competed at the NCAA Northeast Regional Qualifier meet, held at Van Courtland Park, Bronx, N.Y. on Saturday, Nov. 11, where they took first place individually and as a team. With the win, the Eagles get an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship meet.
With four runners placing in the top ten, the sixth nationally ranked Eagles competed among 36 teams. Winning the 5000-meter race with a time of 20:26.1, sophomore Maggie Guiney (Red Bank, N.J.) taking her third, first place finish of the year. Finishing in fourth place for the Eagles was senior captain Katie Ryan (Elmira, N.Y.) with a time of 20:43.4. Less than seven seconds later, sophomore Laura Smith (Holden, Mass.) finished in seventh place with 20:50.3. The fourth Eagle in the top ten finishers of the 229 participant race, was sophomore Cate Guiney (Red Bank, N.J.) with 20:55.8.
Other Boston College participants were sophomore Julie Spolodoro (Duxbury, Mass.) in 26th, junior Sharon Van Tuyl (Portage, Mich.) in 37th and freshman Jennifer Kramer (Loudonville, N.Y.) in 42nd.
The Eagle's will wrap up there season when they travel to Ames, Iowa to participate in the NCAA Championship race, at host school Iowa State, on Monday, November 20, 2000.
