Men's Soccer Advances to BIG EAST Championship Game

Piscataway, N.J. - BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year Casey Schmidt scored the game-winning goal with 2:07 remaining in the first half and BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year Chris Hamblin preserved the shutout with several dynamic saves in the second half to lead the third-seeded Boston College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over seventh-seeded Rutgers in the semifinals of the BIG EAST tournament. The Eagles will now play in their first BIG EAST Championship game since 1993 against fifth-seeded Seton Hall on Sunday, Nov. 12 at noon in a game being shown live on Fox Sports Net New England.
The Eagles held play in their end for the majority of the game, allowing only several long shots in on goal. Moments before the clinching goal, Schmidt went down when he re-aggravated a leg injury. But he staying in the game and as sophomore Bobby Thompson served a corner ball, senior Kevin Boyd flicked to Schmidt who was standing at the doorstep of the goal.
Hamblin recorded his career-high eighth shutout of the season to lead the Eagles to victory. With the win, the Eagles move to 11-6-1 on the season. Rutgers fell to 10-9-1 on the season.
