CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Dartmouth's Carly Haggard scored two goals and assisted on three more to lead the No. 1 Big Green past Boston College 8-1 in ECAC women's ice hockey action Tuesday night. The game was Dartmouth's season opener, so while the Eagles fell to 1-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play, the Big Green kicked off their season 1-0-0 both overall and in the ECAC.
Haggard fed defenseman Correne Bredin at 3:36 of the first period for the game's first goal, then scored her own goal on a power play at 6:14. Carrie Sekela put the Big Green up 3-0 at 10:36 of the first when she beat Eagles junior goaltender Amy Coletta with a short-handed shot from the redline. Sekela finished the game with a pair of goals and an assist, while Kim McCullough tallied a couple of assists to aid the Big Green's cause. Freshman Renee Taylor scored the Eagles' lone goal at 7:57 of the second period, but by that point Dartmouth had a firm hold of both the period and the game. As much as Dartmouth controlled play in the first and second periods, though, the Eagles held their own in the game's final stanza, playing the Big Green to a 0-0 draw in the period while only being outshot 7-6. In total, Coletta finished the affair with 24 saves in the BC net, while her Dartmouth counterpart Meaghan Cahill made 11 stops for the Big Green.
The Eagles' next game will next be in action this Saturday night, November 4, when they travel to the University of Maine for another ECAC Conference matchup. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
