Women's Cross Country Move Up One in National Rankings

Chestnut Hill, Mass.-The Boston College women's cross country team moved up one to sixth in the October 31 FinishLynx NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country National Poll. The Eagles last competed at the BIG EAST Championships on Friday, October 27 at Boston's Franklin Park where they took first place. The BIG EAST win was the fourth championship won by women's cross country and the first since 1985.
Leading the Eagles in the win was sophomore Maggie Guiney who finished in second place. With the 17:03 finish, M. Guiney set a personal record in the 5,000 meter race. Winning the race was Ann McGranahan from Villanova.
To capture the win, the Eagles used five runners in the top 15. The next to finish for the Eagles took the sixth, seventh and eighth places. In sixth with a time of 17:25 was sophomore Laura Smith. Shortly following in seventh was senior captain Katie Ryan with 17:31. Two seconds (17:33) later sophomore Cate Guiney finished in eighth place. Rounding out the medal winners, freshman Jennifer Kramer finished in 15th with a time of 17:40.
Also competing for the Heights were sophomore Julie Spoledoro (25th), junior Sharon Van Tuyl (27th), freshman Jennifer Donovan (43rd) and senior captain Lisa McIssac (76th).
Boston College women's cross country will return to action when they travel to Van Courtland Park, Bronx, N.Y. to participate in the NCAA District I Qualifier on Saturday, Nov. 11. The meet is schedule to begin at 11:00 a.m.
