CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- Former Boston College women's hockey star Erin Magee has been named to the 2000-2001 United States Women's National Team, USA Hockey announced yesterday in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 23-year-old Magee had previously been a member of the 1999-2000 U.S. Women's Select Team.
Magee, a member of the Boston College class of 1999, is the only Eagle to ever play for the United States National Team. Boston College's most prolific scorer with 116 goals, 82 assists and 198 career points in her four years at the Heights, Magee made her debut for her country in the Three Nations Cup in Montreal after earning a spot on the Select Team in early November of 1999.
The National Team, coached by Gloucester, Mass., native Ben Smith-the man who led the 1998 women's National Team to Olympic gold in Nagano-will live and train full-time at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., and play a season-long schedule against international and college competition, and professional teams from the National Women's Hockey League, including 29 home games at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid. The team will also prepare for the 2001 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship, to be held April 2-8 in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn.
Magee led Boston College in scoring three of her four seasons at BC. During her freshman season in 1995-96, she tallied 39 goals and 25 assists in only 27 games. This mark of 64 points in a single season still stands as a BC record today. She followed up her record-setting rookie performance with an equally impressive 55-point season as a sophomore, registering 32 goals and 23 assists. Magee scored 21 goals and 17 assists her junior year, finishing third on the team in scoring, and finished her career with a 24-goal, 17 -assist season as a senior.
A native of Troy, N.Y., and a former sociology and human development major in the College of Arts and Sciences, Magee still holds or shares every offensive record in Boston College history.
