Gottstein Picked to Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team

Newark, N.J.--Boston College's junior forward Becky Gottstein has been named to the 2000-2001 Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team, announced by the BIG EAST today at their annual media day, held in Newark, N.J.
Gottstein a native of Albany, NY, played in 23 games last year starting 20, averaging 14.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. After starting the first 18 games and averaging 32.2 minutes and 13.1 points, Gottstein was sidelined for a stress fracture of the talus bone in her right ankle. Before her injury, she earned BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week honors three times (11/22, 12/13 and1/2). Returning for the BIG EAST Tournament, Gottstein averaged 14.7 points and 7.7 rebounds in the team's three tournament games and then averaged 22.5 points in 8.5 rebounds in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
Joining Gottstein on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team are Niele Ivey of Notre Dame, Alicia Ratay also of Notre Dame, Katie Smroka-Duffy of Georgetown and Tammy Sutton-Brown of Rutgers. Receiving Preseason Player of the Year honors was Shea Ralph of Connecticut.
Also announced today was the 2000-2001 Preseason BIG EAST Coaches' Poll. Cathy Inglese's Eagles are picked to finish fourth in the BIG EAST, collecting 129 points. Picked unanimously by the league's head women's basketball coaches to win the league's regular season title was the last years champion, the University of Connecticut. Chosen to finish second was Rutgers with 152 points and third was Notre Dame with 150.
The Eagles will tip off their season when they face NWBL in an exhibition game on Sunday, November 5, in a game schedule to begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Conte Forum.
