BREWSTER, MASS. - The Captain's Golf Course in Brewster, Mass., hosted 46 schools and 228 individual golfers at the annual New England Championships over these past two days. Boston College's Men's Golf team, which has had top-10 finishes in all of its six previous fall outtings this year, was one of these teams. Placing fifth overall, the Eagles finished the two-day tournament with a 620 (307-313).
Leading the Eagles, once again, was Junior Rich Tilghman, whose two-day 147 (73-74) tied him for third place in individual competition. Tilghman's three-over-par performance was his strongest yet this year. Contributions by freshmen Christopher Sanossian (74-81) and Sean McReynolds (83-76), along with seniors Josh Folkerth (81-82) and Mike Rich (79-88) helped to boost the Eagles to their strong fifth place finish.
The University of Rhode Island came out on top, claiming the team championship with the lowest team score of 587 (296-291), with Central Connecticut pulling in with a second place 615 (304-311). The University of Connecicut and the University of Hartford, continuing the streak of Connecticut schools at the top of the leader board, finished tied for 3rd place. Both teams tallied a two-day total of 619. URI's Mike Carbone shot even par on the two days to claim first place in individual competition with a 144 total and Dartmouth's Jero Esteve won the silver medal with a 145 (69-76). URI's Michael Sims tied Tilghman's stroke count, tying for third place with a 147 (73-74).
This competition was Boston College's last scheduled commitment this fall. Their spring schedule will resume on April 6th, when they compete in the Yale Spring Invitational. The 2001 Spring Schedule is available to be viewed on this website. Please note that all dates are subject to change, and updates will be made when necessary.
