Women's Cross Country Ranked Seventh in National Poll

Chestnut Hill, Mass.-The Boston College women's cross country team is ranked seventh by the October 16 Finishlynx NCAA Division I Women' Cross Country National Poll. The Eagles move up three spots after their strong finish at the 28th Memorial Cross Country Classic Pre-National Invitational held at Iowa State University, on Saturday, October 14.
The Eagles finished sixth out of 56 teams at the pre-NCAA meet. Finishing first for the Eagles was sophomore Maggie Guiney with a time of 21:42.0. She placed 19th overall out of 371 competitors. Next in 32nd, junior captain Katie Ryan finished with a time of 21:53.9. Eight seconds later (21:55.1), sophomore Laura Smith finished 34th. Also placing for the Eagles was sophomore Cate Guiney (67), freshman Jennifer Kramer (142), junior Sharon Van Tuyl (194) and sophomore Julie Spolidore (354).
BC also competed at the New England Championships on Friday, October 13 at Franklin Park, Boston. The Eagles finished 14th out of 36 teams. Leading the Eagles with a 13th place finish was freshman Jennifer Donovan. Next to finish for BC was senior Lisa McIssac in 28th. In 88th was junior Meghan Cunniff. Three other runners also placed for the Eagle's, sophomore Erin Herbig (157), freshman Rebecca Simmons (170) and sophomore Mary Tomer (187).
The Eagles will next compete in the BIG EAST Championships on Friday, October 27th, at Boston's Franklin Park, in a meet scheduled to begin at 12:20 p.m.
