CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team defeated Pittsburgh today, 3-2, in a BIG EAST Conference match-up. Eagles' freshman setter Jeana Boyle led all players with 23 kills and 32 digs.
The Eagles (4-11 overall, 1-1 BIG EAST) took game one of the match 15-13 and looked prepared to take a 2-0 lead in the second game, but the Panthers (13-5 overall, 1-1 BIG EAST) stormed back from a 13-10 deficit to steal the frame 16-14 and even the affair at one game apiece. BC took control of the third game early, and took the set 15-10, but the Panthers again proved a hard species to kill, dominating the fourth game 15-4 and forcing the deciding fifth frame. The Eagles gained the momentum early in the set and were able to hold off a late Pitt charge to take the game 15-10, and the match 3-2.
Eagles' senior setter Kyleen Charlton led all players with 65 assists. Stacy Renick and Marcia Thiesen each had 21 kills to lead the Panthers.
The Eagles' next match will be this Tuesday, Oct. 3, as BC takes on Dartmouth at 7 p.m. in the Power Gym. Admission is free.
