CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Riding the longest winning streak in school history, No. 25 Boston College looks to show why it earned the last spot in the Top 25 poll in Sunday's Big East Conference battle at Syracuse.
The Eagles (12-3, 1-0 Big East) took a four-week hiatus from the poll shortly after losing three of four games in late November, capped by a 79-68 setback in Arkansas.
They have since strung together eight consecutive wins to regain a place in the rankings, sharing the No. 25 spot with Arkansas State.
Boston College notched a seven-game winning streak last season, which coincidentally ended at Syracuse with a 73-70 loss to the Orangewomen on Jan. 13, 1999.
The Eagles are coming off a 66-42 victory over Holy Cross behind reserve Nicole Conway's career-high 16 points.
Senior guard Cal Bouchard managed just nine points in that win but leads the team with 14.5 points per game. She is complemented up front by Becky Gottstein, who averages 12.6 points and 10.1 rebounds, and fellow forward Alissa Murphy, who ranks second with a 13.2 average.
Junior Beth Record does most of the scoring for Syracuse (7-5, 0-1), averaging a conference-best 18.3 points. She had 19 points Tuesday in the Orangewomen's Big East Conference opener, a 76-65 loss to Providence.
In the first game against a ranked opponent this season, Syracuse beat then-No. 19 Old Dominion, 71-46. The Orangewomen were just 1-7 against ranked foes last season, with the lone victory against Boston College.
