Shannon Smith Wins Two Events to Lead Women's Track

Junior Shannon Smith won both the mile and the 3000M races to lead the Boston College women's track team to a third-place finish at the New England Challenge Cup, hosted by Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., on January 22.
Smith edged out Rhode Island's Amy Taylor by six-tenths of a second to win the mile in 4:57.3. In the 3000M, she topped sophomore Katie Ryan by two seconds to win with a time of 9:50.6.
Freshman Nicolette Pogue continued her winning streak in the 55M dash with a 7.26 run. In the 200M, she earned a sixth-place finish with a 26.99.
Freshman Jennifer Vendetti won the 400M in a time of 56.48, followed by classmate Rachel D'Amora in third with a 59.12.
Freshman Cate Guiney took second place in the 1000M, falling to Kim Grabarz of UConn with a 2:37.6. Her sister Maggie earned fifth-place honors in the mile with a 5:07.6.
The women's track team will next compete at the Husky Invitational held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on January 28 at 5 p.m.
