CHESTNUT HILL - Freshman goaltender Tim Kelleher made 29 saves and classmate Krys Kolanos netted two goals to lead Boston College to a 6-0 HOCKEY EAST victory over Providence before a crowd of 4,887 at BC?s Kelley Rink.
Boston College (14-7-1) led 1-0 after two periods, before exploding for five goals in less than six minutes to secure the win. The third period marked the second time this season that Boston College has scored five goals in one period. BC also netted five goals in the final period of a 6-2 win over Brown.
After a scoreless first period, sophomore forward Jeff Giuliano opened the scoring at 11:12 of the second period to give BC a 1-0 lead. Kolanos registered his first goal of the game at 5:50 of the final period to double the BC advantage and get the Eagles? rally started.
Senior Jeff Farkas made the score 3-0 at 7:32, before Kolanos recorded his second goal of the night at 9:04. Junior Mark McLennan tallied his third goal of the season at 10:28, and junior Brian Gionta finished the scoring at 11:34.
Senior Mike Mottau and freshman Bill Cass ? both defensemen ? each tallied two assists.
Thirteen Boston College players recorded at least one point in the contest.
For Kelleher, the shutout was his second in 11 collegiate appearances. He made 29 saves to earn his seventh win of the season.
Providence (12-11-1) freshman Nolan Schaefer made 32 stops in 51:34, before junior Boyd Ballard made three saves in the final 8:26.
Boston College returns to action on Friday, January 28 when it meets Maine in the first of a two-game series at Maine?s Alfond Arena.
