Hockey Defeats Brown, 6-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Junior forward Brian Gionta netted two goals and one assist to lead Boston College to a 6-2 non-league win over Brown before a crowd of 4,815 at BC?s Kelley Rink. The win was the Eagles? sixth consecutive victory.
Brown (2-9-0) led 2-1 after two periods, before Boston College (11-5-0) exploded for five third-period goals to gain the win. Junior forward Mike Lephart tied the game at 1:28 of the final period, and senior forward Kevin Caulfield netted the decisive goal ? on the power play ? at 3:45.
Senior forward Blake Bellefeuille also tallied three points for the Eagles, finishing with one goal and two assists. Lephart added one goal and one assist.
After a scoreless first period, Brown opened the scoring on freshman Keith Kirley?s power-play goal at 10:25 of the middle period. BC?s Gionta evened the score at 18:50, before Brown junior Jon Zielinksi answered 30 seconds later to give the Bears a 2-1 lead entering the second intermission.
After Lephart and Caulfield scored to give BC a 3-2 lead in the third period, Bellefeuille scored at 12:51 to double the BC margin. Gionta added an empty-net goal at 18:04, and freshman Paul Kelly netted his first collegiate goal to finish the scoring at 19:24.
BC freshman goaltender Tim Kelleher made 12 saves to earn his fifth collegiate victory. Brown senior Scott Stirling made 32 saves.
Boston College returns to action against Boston University on Saturday, January 8. Game time is 7 p.m. in Kelley Rink.
