New Haven, Ct. - Junior forward Mark McLennan's goal broke a third-period tie and freshman goaltender Tim Kelleher stopped 24 shots as the Boston College hockey team came from behind for a 3-1 road victory over Yale before a sellout crowd of 3,486 at Ingalls Rink.
The non-league victory, the Eagles' fifth in five games against teams from the ECAC, improved Boston College's record to 13-6-1 overall.
Yale's Jay Quenville got the host Bulldogs on the board first at 13:26 of the opening period before BC junior forward Brian Gionta tied the contest at 19:01 of the period with his 14th goal of the season. Freshman Krys Kolanos and senior Jeff Farkas assisted on the tally.
The Eagles outshot Yale, 15-5, in the second period, but could not pull ahead until the final stanza, when McLennan put home the rebound of a Rob Scuderi shot for his second goal of the season. Blake Bellefeuille added a shorthanded goal off a Gionta assist two minutes and 12 seconds later to put the game away. The goal gave Bellefeuille a string of 10 consecutive games with at least one point scored.
Kelleher made 14 of his 24 stops in the third period to hold off the Bulldogs, who drop to 7-6-2.
Boston College will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 22 when it travels to Providence for the front end of a weekend home-and-home series with the Friars.
