Providence, R.I. - Providence College scored four unanswered goals in the final 29:58 of play, erasing a 3-0 Boston College lead and handing the Eagles a stunning 4-3 loss before a crowd of 2,871 at Schaefer Arena. The defeat dropped the Eagles to 13-7-1 overall and 6-6-1 in HOCKEY EAST play.
Freshman Krys Kolanos got Boston College on the board first when he redirected a Bobby Allen slapshot into the net at 5:47 of the first period.
The Eagles then appeared to break the game open when they scored twice within a 31-second span in the second period to take a three-goal lead. Sophomore Ales Dolinar lit the lamp at 8:06 for his fourth goal of the season, with Marty Hughes and Rob Scuderi assisting. Just 31 seconds later, senior Kevin Caulfield put away the rebound of a Dolinar shot to make it 3-0.
But after a Friar time out, momentum quickly seemed to shift toward the host club, and at 10:02 of the second period, Peter Fregoe got Providence to within two. A Fernando Pisani goal at 14:11 made it 3-2 at the end of the second period.
Boston College still looked to be in good shape eight minutes into the final period when they went on the power play with a one-goal lead, but Drew Omicioli's shorthanded tally at 8:31 - the first shorthanded goal the Eagles have allowed this season - tied the game. Doug Wright put away the game-winner for Providence at 14:31, and the Eagles could not answer back.
Junior Scott Clemmensen made 19 saves for Boston College, who fell despite outshooting the Friars by a 39-23 margin. Nolan Schaefer made 36 saves for Providence.
