Women's Ice Hockey Takes Down Middlebury College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College earned its third win of the season tonight at Conte Forum by defeating Middlebury College, 4-3, in non-league play. Junior Lisa Molvar and sophomore Jane Jorge each scored two goals to lead the Eagles past the Panthers.
Middlebury opened the scoring when Michelle Labbe netted a Catherine Pullins pass past sophomore goaltender Sharon VanTuyl just 2:46 into the first period. Labbe gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead at 6:38 when she knocked in her second goal of the game from Pullins and Sylvia Ryan. The goal was a power-play goal.
Boston College got on the scoreboard when Molvar took a pass from Jorge and Jessica Griffin and scored on Middlebury goaltender Beth Denoncourt at 9:14 of the first period to bring the Eagles within one goal, 2-1.
Middlebury scored to open the second period and extended their lead to 3-1 when Jacqui Phillips scored on a scrum in front of the net at 3:34.
Boston College stormed back and scored three straight goals to take the lead and win the game. Jorge scored her first goal of the night at 8:58 of the second period on a pass from freshman Thia Connolly. Molvar scored her second goal at 11:52 of the second stanza to tie the score at 3-3, netting a pass from junior Jen Buckley past Denoncourt.
Jorge's second goal gave the Eagles the lead for good, just 1:05 into the third period, when she connected on a Connolly pass.
Molvar nearly completed a hat trick eight minutes into the third period when her shot ricocheted off Denoncourt and hit the right post.
VanTuyl recorded 26 saves in the winning effort. Denoncourt stopped 14 Eagle shots.
Boston College moved to 3-11-1 on the season and will next face Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. on Tuesday, January 18 at 7 p.m. Middlebury suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 7-1 overall.
