Maggie Guiney Captures Win In First Career Collegiate Race

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Maggie Guiney (Red Bank, NJ) won the First Annual Marie J. Murtha Race in her first-ever collegiate competition on September 4 at the Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn. Guiney was the first of three Eagles in the Top Five. Boston College finished second in team competition with 41 points behind Central Connecticut.
Guiney (18:34) led six BC competitors in the Top 20 finishers. Sophomore Nicole Portley (San Mateo, Calif.) ran to a third-place finish (18:49) followed by senior Kyla Barbour (Roswell, Ga.) in fourth place (18:51). Freshman Mary Turner (Worthington, Ohio) took 16th-place (19:47) and sophomore Katie Ryan (Elmira, N.Y.) finished in 17th-place (19:51). Freshman Meghan Andrade (San Ramon, Calif.) came in 20th with a time of 19:55.
The women's cross country team will next compete on Sept. 10 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. in a meet with the University of Connecticut, the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and the University of New Hampshire. The race will start at 3:30 p.m.
