CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Ed Moy, who served 14 years as Boston College's head men's lacrosse coach, has retired from his position, according to an announcement made by BC athletic director Gene DeFilippo.
DeFilippo also announced that Dave Curnick, who has served the last 11 years as the Eagles' assistant coach, has been elevated to the head coaching position. Curnick will assume his new duties immediately.
"I'd like to thank Ed Moy for 14 years of dedicated service to Boston College. He was always a fine representative of our institution, and he always had the best interests of our student-athletes in mind," DeFilippo said. "I'd also like to welcome Dave Curnick as our newest head coach. He has been a long-time assistant coach, and he knows the university and the lacrosse program well."
In 14 years as head coach, Moy recorded a 72-130 mark. Over the last five seasons, Moy led the Eagles to four ECAC Tournament berths, and twice BC advanced to the tournament's title game. In 1998, Moy was selected to coach the East squad in the New England Senior All-Star Game. A member of the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's Executive Board, Moy also serves as the Event Director of the Massachusetts Special Olympics.
Curnick, a 1987 graduate of Hobart College, has worked primarily with the Eagles' defensive unit during his tenure at Boston College. As an undergraduate, Curnick was a standout defenseman for the Statesmen, helping the team capture four consecutive NCAA Division III titles. He also played two years on the Hobart football team.
Curnick, who holds a master's degree in education, is a school teacher in the Newton (Mass.) public school system.
