Boston College Gets Top Billing In Preseason Poll

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College is the nation's top-ranked team, according to The Sporting News in a poll released as part of The Sporting News' Hockey Guide.
In addition to the top ranking, Boston College junior forward Brian Gionta (Rochester, N.Y.) got the magazine's nod as the 1999-2000 HOCKEY EAST Preseason Player of the Year. During the 1998-99 season Gionta scored 27 goals and added 23 assists for 60 points on his way to earning All-America and All-HOCKEY EAST first team accolades.
In addition to Gionta, junior defenseman Bobby Allen (Hull, Mass.), senior forward Blake Bellefeuille (Framinghan, Mass), junior goaltender Scott Clemmensen (Urbandale, Iowa), senior forward Jeff Farkas (Williamsville, N.Y.), and senior defenseman Mike Mottau (Avon, Mass.), were listed on the 1999-2000 All-American Checklist.
The Eagles, who posted a 27-12-4 mark last season, are coming off their second straight Frozen Four appearance and second consecutive HOCKEY EAST Tournament title.
Boston College will play Queens University in an exhibition game at Kelley Rink on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. The Eagles open the regular season against Bowling Green on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in Kelley Rink.
