Boston College assistant hockey coach Mike Cavanaugh will serve as head coach of Team Massachusetts in the USA Hockey Select 15 Festival that will be held at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube in Ann Arbor, Mich. from July 19-24.
Team Massachusetts, one of 10 teams, will compete in the festival's National Division. Other teams in that division are Michigan, Minnkota, Atlantic/Southeastern and New York.
Cavanaugh, a native of North Andover, Mass., and a 1990 graduate of Bowdoin College, will enter this fifth season at Boston College this winter. Prior to joining the Eagles' staff, Cavanaugh spent two years as an assistant coach at Dartmouth College (1993-95) and one season as Jerry Yorks assistant coach at Bowling Green (1992-93).
At Boston College, Cavanaugh has played a key role in the Eagles' recruiting and on-ice coaching efforts. Together with head coach Jerry York and associate head coaches Scott Paluch and Jim Logue, Cavanaugh has guided Boston College to the 1998 and 1999 HOCKEY EAST Tournament titles and back-to-back berths in the NCAA Tournament's Frozen Four. In 1998, Boston College defeated Ohio State in the semifinal round, before losing to Michigan, 3-2 in overtime, in the title game.
