Softball to Compete in 1998 Big East Tournament

Boston College will compete in the BIG EAST Softball Championship on May 2-3 at Ivy Field at Notre Dame. The Eagles clinched the BIG EAST North title for the first time in school history and have an 11-2-1 record with three league games remaining on the schedule. The BIG EAST Softball Championship follows a four-team, double-elimination format, and the winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
A year ago, Boston College won its first BIG EAST Softball Championship after registering three victories at the tournament in Storrs, Connecticut. The Eagles opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over Notre Dame. Mary Dietz pitched a no-hitter in the second game of the tournament as Boston College defeated Connecticut, 5-0. The Eagles played Connecticut in the championship game, and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament with a 9-1 win.
