Chestnut Hill, Mass.--The Boston College softball team picked up their first win behind a record-tying 15 strikeouts from junior Mary Dietz(San Manuel, AZ). Dietz fanned 15 opponents for the fourth time in her career to pick up her first win of the season.
Boston University got on the board first in the bottom of the first. Leslie Linnemeyer came across the plate for the Terriors, scoring their only run of the game. BC fought back and in the bottom of the third scored two runs on RBI singles by Summer Jarratt(Manhattan Beach, CA) and Chris Vicari(Totowa, NJ).
Mary Dietz pitched a complete game shutout with four hits allowing only one walk to lead the Eagles to their first win of the season.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Terriors out-hit the Eagles 8-5 to pick up the 3-1 victory and their fifth of the season. Freshman Brooke Shull(San Diego, CA) started for the Eagles, allowing six hits and one run in five innings pitched. Junior Gretchen Thompson(Brea, CA) came on in relief and gave up two runs on two hits. Thompson picked up her second loss of the season.
Boston College will travel to Virginia to participate in a weekend tournament.
