CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.---Boston College improved to 18-16 overall and 7-3 in the BIG EAST with two wins over the Providence Friars in action Tuesday afternoon at BCs Shea Field.
Junior Mary Dietz(San Manuel, AZ) and freshman Brooke Shull(San Diego, CA) combined for a perfect game in game one of the doubleheader. In five innings the two struck out 10 of the 15 batters. Shull pitched the fifth inning. It was the second no-hitter thrown in BC history. Dietz threw Boston College's only other no-hitter in the 1997 BIG EAST Tournament, when the Eagles defeated Connecticut 5-0.
In game two, which was also called after five innings due to an eight run "mercy" rule, the Eagles smacked 10 hits. BC scored eight runs in the bottom of the third capped by junior Chris Vicaris(Totowa, N.J.) second grand slam of the season.
The Eagles will be right back at it tomorrow when they host Yale. Game time is 3 p.m.
