Seven Eagles Invited to National Hockey Camp

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Seven members of the 1997-98 Boston College hockey team were among 44 players invited to participate in the US National Junior Camp that will be held at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y. from August 9-16.
The BC team members are sophomores Kevin Caulfield (forward; Hyde Park, Mass.), Jeff Farkas (forward; Williamsville, N.Y.) and Mike Mottau (defenseman; Avon, Mass.) and incoming freshmen Bobby Allen (defenseman; Hull, Mass.), Brian Gionta (forward; Rochester, N.Y.), Marty Hughes (defenseman; Hicksville, N.Y.) and Rob Scuderi (defenseman; Bethpage, N.Y.).
Twenty-two players from the 44-man US National Junior Camp will be chosen to take part in the Tempere Cup in Tempere, Finland from August 16-24.
The players selected to participate in the Tempere Cup in Finland are candidates for the 1998 US National Junior Team that will compete in the World Junior Championship (in Finland). Final selections for the U.S. National Junior team will be made on December 1, 1997.
Three of the seven Boston College players invited to the US National Junior Camp were selected in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday, June 21. Farkas was selected by Toronto in the third round (57th overall), Caulfield was taken by Washington in the fifth round (116th), and Mottau was taken by the New York Rangers in the seventh round (182nd).
