Boston College junior defenseman Mike Mottau (Avon, Mass.) earned the prestigious Walter Brown Award for 1999, as announced in a press release by the Gridiron Club of Boston.
The award is given annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England. This year, for the second time in its 47-year history, the Walter Brown award was bestowed upon two players - Mottau and Providences Mike Omicioli.
The assistant captain is a two-time All-HOCKEY EAST recipient. He leads the team and ranks among the nations leaders with 38 assists.
Mottau is the 16th Boston College player to earn the honor; the first since David Emma in his Hobey-Baker winning season (1991). BC head coach Jerry York was the Walter Brown Award winner in 1967.
Mottau and the Eagles will face Northern Michigan in the NCAA Tournament West Regional on Saturday, March 27. Game time is 5:30 p.m. (ET) at Dane County Coliseum in Madison, Wis.
